Wightlink is once again offering free foot passenger travel to veterans and serving members of the Armed Forces during the Remembrance period, helping them attend services and events or pay their respects.
From Saturday 7 November to Wednesday 11 November 2026, current and former members of the Armed Forces can travel free of charge as foot passengers on any Wightlink service departing from the Isle of Wight. Each eligible passenger can also bring one accompanying foot passenger free of charge on a day return ticket, making it easier for partners, family members or carers to travel with them.
To make use of the offer, passengers simply need to visit a Wightlink customer service point at the port and present valid military or veteran ID before boarding. There is no need to book in advance.
Wightlink crew member Mark Charles, a veteran himself, understands first-hand the importance of Remembrance. He said: “I served in the Army for 24 years, so Remembrance is very personal to me. It is about remembering those who lost their lives in service, as well as recognising the lasting impact service can have on people.
“For some, attending a Remembrance service can be a difficult and emotional experience, remembering friends and colleagues who are missed every day. Offering free travel to serving personnel and veterans is a small but meaningful way of helping people get to where they want to be to pay their respects.”
Wightlink will also observe a two-minute silence across its fleet on Remembrance Sunday, joining the nation in remembering those who have served and sacrificed.
Wightlink is proud to support the Armed Forces community and hopes the free travel offer will make it a little easier for veterans and serving personnel to mark Remembrance in the way that is most meaningful to them.
